I have tried so many different products over the last few years in an attempt to maintain my silver blonde hair. I had seen this permanent dye from Colour Freedom doing the rounds on Instagram. If any of you have silver hair you will know that it is far from permanent and takes so much time and effort to maintain the colour you want.
I decided to purchase the dye, which is exclusive to Superdrug, and give it a go. It comes in a range of different shades.
- Silver Blonde
- Silver Grey
- Graphite Grey
-Stone Grey
-Metallic Black
I opted for Silver Grey because I had read some review saying the Silver Blonde hadn't made any difference to the hair. However, it all depends on the base colour we are starting with. Mine was platinum blonde from bleach and silver shampoo so I did have a very light base to start with. I mixed the colour and developer together and applied to my hair from root to tip. It took me quite a while to ensure all my hair was covered but one box was enough for my longish hair. It said on the instructions to leave to develop for 25mins. After around 15mins my hair was looking black, so I panicked and headed straight to the shower to wash it off. It was very dark and I wasn't expecting it to take that well to my hair. Once it was dry it didn't look as dark but it was a big change from my platinum hair.
First impressions are good. For a box dye I think the colour is amazing. It is just like the colour on the box but I totally didn't have high expectations. I have now washed my hair a few times since the application and it has faded a bit. But I like it better as it is now not such a dark grey and more of a silver.
I would say that for anyone wanting to achieve grey hair this product is the way forward. the darker colours can be used on dark hair to give you a grey tint and metallic shine, but if you were wanting to be silver then you would have to pre lighten your hair first. Please be careful when working with bleach not to over process your hair and if you can, seek professional help from a salon.
Overall I am very impressed with this dye and I can't imagine that I could have got a better colour if I had gone to a salon. With grey and silver shades it has only been possible to achieve the colour using toners, but these wash out within a few washes and the up keep can be costly. This dye cost me £7.99 and I am very happy with the result.
Keep up to date with the colour on my instagram cosmetic.treasures to see how long the colour lasts.
